Biography
In 2006, Retribution decided to make music that he would listen to when he is dying. He began writing instrumental songs that comprised of 3-4 guitars, bass and drums.Even though the recording quality was worse than one of a 90's clone black metal band that actually wanted to have a lousy production, the songs generated positive feedback despite the shortage of vocals!
Having scrapped the first dozen songs and acquired the necessary equipment to record in better quality at home, he finally began songwriting for the first Sorg Uten Tårer release BLADESONG in July-August 2007. The 8 song episode contained tribute songs to Raistlin Majere and Drizzt Do'Urden and the lyrically most aggressive piece "Bladesong", which is a heathen anthem against the deceptive tales of Islam, Christianity and Judaism.
Before anyone even got to hear them, he wrote another 8 songs for BLACK PANTHER METAL in September 2007, which had a harsher but, at the same time, a more epic feeling, with songs like The Demonologist, Remember and Bleak, and JRR Tolkien's farewell poem for Bilbo Baggins, "At The Grey Havens".
The third chapter followed... 27 days later. October's 8 song release KAISA had the first slow Sorg Uten Tårer song "God Of The Moon", tributes to Siegfried, Saya from Blood+ Animated Series, The Death Gate Cycle books (The End Was The Beginning).
By this time, with 3 long play releases of melodic metal music in 3 months, Sorg Uten Tårer began to gain some recognition. As a reply came MOONSILVER on November the 30th 2007. Surprisingly enough for a Black Metal song, "Maren" was inspired by a children?s book - "The Little Mermaid". In this 4th release, Artemis Entreri, Kitiara Uth Matar and Silvara the Silver Dragon were the other additions to the fantasy world characters that got their own songs. 4th month's MOONSILVER also had a cover song featured: Dave Matthew's Band's Anne Sexton tribute "Grey Street".
Winter had come and so have Retribution's final exams at university. Thus, his Muse wore a much darker dress, suited to the cold dark days of the best season in the year. Having made the handful of fans wait more than 2 months for another chapter of melodic black metal, Sorg Uten Tårer is ready to release the newest 8 songs Retribution sang at cold nights.
GRAVE SONGS is the beginning of a new style in the band's releases. No Intro or Outro tracks anymore. As, with everything, us, humans dislike things without names. Hence, despite having required more effort than other songs, Intro and Outro songs were usually not appreciated, having no name, no lyrics. This change also made GRAVE SONGS have a run time of 50 minutes, compared to the 30~something of the previous cds. This is somewhat of a theme album focusing on Grave, Death, Vengeance, Betrayal... and Sorrow. "Ode To Sorrow" is a song made of 2 parts, in contrast with Beethoven's 9th Symphony, which later adopted the name "Ode To Joy" with Schiller's addition. Sorg Uten Tårer will continue to release chapters of Retribution's attempts at making the song that he can listen to when he's dying. And, as any other "Dark Bard" would, he requires no coins for his music, and all he wishes for is the listeners to join in and sing the songs together...
